hmm

I think I might be addicted to Teletoon Retro.

That also brings me to my next question; How come cartoons nowadays are so shitty? (besides Family Guy and American Dad)

With love from Russia

A few months ago I had the pleasure to meet and work with a very talented (and lovable) photographer named Ilya Fedorov who came all the way from Russia.
You may remember I blogged about this shoot a little while ago as it was quite an adventure hiking through the woods in a corset and long lace skirt.
What I did not mention is that the photo's would be featured exclusively in Russia's 'Happy Plus' magazine.
The Russians have been most kind to me, this is my 3rd interview for a Russian publication:)

Scout Boutique's annual Fall fashion show

Last week I pleasure of modeling at Scout Boutique's annual Fall Fashion party.
Scout Boutique is by far my favorite little shop here in Vancouver, so I was very exited and honored when they asked me to model in their show. They carry cute retro and Pin Up inspires get-up's for all shapes and size which the show reflected. I'm always happy when people are open minded enough to use models with different sizes and body shapes. Variety is the spice of life!

Here are some shots from that night.

Seattle

The other half and I took a day trip to Seattle (one of my favorite cities) for some *early* birthday celebrations and to see our buddies The Independents play at The Funhouse (by the way if you haven't heard of this band you should check them out, they are amazing)

The first thing we usually do when we hit Seattle is drive straight to Pike Place market to get a piroshky from the Piroshky Piroshky bakery. Then I head down to Nordstrom Rack to spend all my money on sunglasses and Betsey Johnson jewelry...*sigh*

We also decided to be cheesy and touristy and have dinner at The Crabpot, which was somewhat dissappointing as the service was awefull, noone smiled and everyone seemed grumpy and fed up of being there. Jerry (my husband) called the hostesses 'cranky crabs' on the way out:p

After dinner we headed to the venue for the gig and hung out with The Independents for a bit, as usual they put on a great show as well...
We drove home after the gig in the pouring rain and pitchblack darkness..It was quite cinematic, like our car should have broken down and us ending up with some serial killers. (a'la Texas Chainsaw or House of a 1000 Corpses)
But thanks to loud music keeping us awake we made it home at around 4.30 in the morning...

Visionnaire by Lancome

Kind of a really random post here but I know most of us love to share and hear about beauty products and stuff.
I've been using the new Visionnaire serum from Lancome for 2 weeks now and I LOVE it..I was sceptical at first because I normally do not use Lancome skincare products (apart from their Genefique eyecream which I love). But I've pretty much noticed a difference right away...The morning after I first applied it my skin was more luminous and radiant..A week later my skin felt smoother in texture and my overal complexion is has been much more even....Going into week too I noticed my skin feeling more firm...I'm really impressed so far.
Since I've had our new camera (thanks to Kris and Nate<3) I've been taking lots of snapshots.

I took this one last week or so before heading out for a stroll around Main Street.

Under the Sea Fetish Fashion Gala

So the 'Under the Sea' Fetish Fashion Gala  last sunday was fabulous!

Many thanks to Deadly Couture for having me in their fashion show and to Restricted Entertainment for hosting such great events.

Almost Fall, yay!

Today I met up with some old friends from Montreal who I had not seen in over a year.It was awesome catching up...Went for drinks and a bite at Morrisey's then for a drive and stroll around the city.
Ended the evening with some Beardpapa's and watched the sunset on English Bay<3

I think I'm one of the few people who is actually pretty stoked that Summer is coming to an end and Fall is around the corner.Gone will be the sticky, sweaty days!
Fall is BY FAR my favorite season of all! (Not biased because my birthday is in October)
The colours, the smell of the air, cinnamon and pumpkins, boots, opaque tights and trench coats are among a few of my favorite things.
And not to mentioned HALLOWEEN, the most wonderful time of the year!
Not so much for the dressing up (I do that plenty) but for the awesome stuff I usually score for my apartment. Homesense had adorable bat and cobweb tea towels last year.(LOVE)

Ironically enough I haven't actually dressed up or gone out for Halloween in a couple of years...Perhaps I'll make an effort this year....:)

Major blog neglect! Sorry you guys, it's been such a busy last few weeks that I almost forgot to update this little space on the interwebz...Thankfully I took this week off so I can get back on track with this thing..

First I'd like to start by showing you guys my new tattoo (forearm) done by Matt Houston @ Gastown Tattoo Parlour here in Vancouver.
With my corset obsession I couldn't think of a better tattoo to get and am so thrilled with the result.

Featured in Retro Lovely Magazine

I'm featured in the currently issue (issue 5) of Retro Lovely magazine with my sailor picture taken by White Wave Studio's.

This is a beautiful, high quality colourful magazine full of hot babes...Order your copy now!!!

Back to my roots

Not many of you know but I originally started out as a 'Horror' model around 2002/2003ish...
It had been a while since I strutted to the darkside and although my shoots over the last few years have been more pin up/glamour themed, Horror is still very close to my heart and I'll proudly confess that I'm a huge Horror movie nerd..

I contacted the amazing Danielle Anathema about my ideas for a more macabre themed shoot and she was down so I dug up my husband's Charlie McArty dummy and this is what happened:
The idea behind the shoot was a glamorous vaudeville star who is tormented by her ventriloquist dummy..
She is in constant dispair and feels trapped..Her face and chest are burnt from the blowtorch Charlie McArthy has used on her...She sits in front of her vanity every day and applies her make up while he watches and taunts her..
The amazing special fx make up was done by the photographer. Hair and beauty make up by myself..

What's next, become a surgeon in 3 weeks?

How insulting..*shakes head*

Summer

Summer seems to be flying by so fast this year..It took forever to show up here in Vancouver and now it's almost over..I better start getting my ass in gear and take advantage of the warm weather..Though I have to admit that Fall is my favorite season. No yucky sweatyness, leaves falling from trees, pretty autumn colours, boots and trenchcoats = Love. (oh and the totally non important fact that my birthday is in the fall:p)

I'll be getting a new tattoo in a couple of weeks by Matt Houston at Gastown Tattoo so I'm pretty stoked about that. I'll spare you the description and wait til' I actually have photo's to show for it...It's a tribute to one of my favorite things. Can you guess?

Love,

K.D

'Real woman'

Taken from Hanne Blank's blog and I could not agree more:
http://www.hanneblank.com/blog/2011/06/23/real-women/
.........................................................................................

'Excuse me while I throw this down, I’m old and cranky and tired of hearing the idiocy repeated by people who ought to know better.
Real women do not have curves.   Real women do not look like just one thing.
Real women have curves, and not.   They are tall, and not.  They are brown-skinned, and olive-skinned, and not.  They have small breasts, and big ones, and no breasts whatsoever.
Real women start their lives as baby girls.  And as baby boys.  And as babies of indeterminate biological sex whose bodies terrify their doctors and families into making all kinds of very sudden decisions.
Real women have big hands and small hands and long elegant fingers and short stubby fingers and manicures and broken nails with dirt under them.
Real women have armpit hair and leg hair and pubic hair and facial hair and chest hair and sexy moustaches and full, luxuriant beards.  Real women have none of these things, spontaneously or as the result of intentional change.  Real women are bald as eggs, by chance and by choice and by chemo.  Real women have hair so long they can sit on it.  Real women wear wigs and weaves and extensions and kufi and do-rags and hairnets and hijab and headscarves and hats and yarmulkes and textured rubber swim caps with the plastic flowers on the sides.
Real women wear high heels and skirts.  Or not.
Real women are feminine and smell good and they are masculine and smell good and they are androgynous and smell good, except when they don’t smell so good, but that can be changed if desired because real women change stuff when they want to.
Real women have ovaries.  Unless they don’t, and sometimes they don’t because they were born that way and sometimes they don’t because they had to have their ovaries removed.  Real women have uteruses, unless they don’t, see above.  Real women have vaginas and clitorises and XX sex chromosomes and high estrogen levels, they ovulate and menstruate and can get pregnant and have babies. Except sometimes not, for a rather spectacular array of reasons both spontaneous and induced.
Real women are fat.  And thin.  And both, and neither, and otherwise.  Doesn’t make them any less real.
There is a phrase I wish I could engrave upon the hearts of every single person, everywhere in the world, and it is this sentence which comes from the genius lips of the grand and eloquent Mr. Glenn Marla:
There is no wrong way to have a body.

I’m going to say it again because it’s important: There is no wrong way to have a body.
And if your moral compass points in any way, shape, or form to equality, you need to get this through your thick skull and stop with the “real women are like such-and-so” crap.
You are not the authority on what “real” human beings are, and who qualifies as “real” and on what basis.  All human beings are real.
Yes, I know you’re tired of feeling disenfranchised.  It is a tiresome and loathsome thing to be and to feel.  But the tit-for-tat disenfranchisement of others is not going to solve that problem.  Solidarity has to start somewhere and it might as well be with you and me.'

Congrats NYC

A big congratulations to NYC for legalizing Gay Marriage!
I've always been a big fighter for Gay rights and am so happy that changes are finally being made for people to be equal...Marriage is about love not gender after all..

I hope the rest of the country will soon follow!

A day in the forest..

Here are some brand new shots I did with Russian photographer Ilya Fedorov.
The corset is (once again) by Sweet Carousel Corsetry.

A word of advice, hiking the forest and climbing rocks in a corset and long skirt is not a great idea (though ofcourse completely worth it for the sake of art!)
I woke up the next day covered in bug bites aswell....Benadryl Itch Stick has been my buddy...
